Let’s take a moment to get to know Beth Carlson, C.N.M. at The Group as she explains why she chose a career in midwifery…

"I have been a midwife for 24 years and have worked at The Group for 22 of those 24 years. I have had the honor of delivering, or aiding in the delivery of, over 2,300 babies!

"I have been fascinated by pregnancy and birth since I was young and midwifery was the perfect fit for me. Midwifery is definitely more of a calling than a career. People often ask 'How can you do THAT?' I assume they mean the messy, loud, energy-filled, and guttural side of birth. My response is always that I can't imagine doing anything else!

"I strongly believe in informed decision-making with clients. I often remind them it is their body and their baby. My job is to make sure they are well informed of what the safest, research-based recommendations are and they need to use that information to choose what is best for themselves and their baby.

"My biggest accomplishment thus far includes my travels to Haiti. I have traveled there eight times in the past 13 years to volunteer and help train Haitian women and men to become midwives and care for those in their country.

"What I love most about working at The Group is we all love each other like family but are aware that our home family always comes first. We work together to make that happen for each other every day.

"My work is my passion and I think the world would be a happier place if everyone was lucky enough to be able to say that."
