What is a DEXA scan?

A Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) scan is a fast, non-invasive, and highly accurate method for measuring body composition. You will receive detailed insights into your body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, and more. This scientifically validated scan goes beyond surface-level measurements, offering a deep understanding of your overall health. Other body fat composition tests that use electrical impedance (scales), skin fold measurements (calipers), and water displacement have a much lower level of accuracy and specificity.

Why should I have a DEXA scan?

This test is considered the GOLD STANDARD, and no other test is as accurate in determining the percentage of body fat versus lean muscle mass and bone. Your bathroom scale cannot tell the difference between the two, but our Body Composition Fat Analysis test using DEXA Scan can!

Why Choose a DEXA Scan for Your Body Composition?

DEXA is rapidly becoming the method of choice for body composition because of its speed, ease of application, and superior accuracy and precision in measuring fat, lean tissue, and bone mineral mass.

Key advantages include:

  • High Precision/Accuracy: Considered superior to, or a "gold standard" replacement for, methods like underwater weighing (hydrodensitometry) or skinfolds.
  • Segmental Analysis: Capable of assessing body composition by region (arms, legs, trunk).
  • Track Your Progress Over Time: Whether you're an athlete, on a weight-loss journey, or focused on maintaining optimal health, the DEXA scan provides consistent, reliable data for tracking changes.
  • Enhance Your Health Strategy: Use the scan's detailed insights to make informed decisions about your diet, exercise, and overall wellness plan.
  • Precise Body Composition Analysis: Get a clear breakdown of fat, lean tissue, and muscle mass for a complete picture of your fitness.
  • Visceral Adipose Tissue Measurement: Assess your risk of conditions linked to excess fat around vital organs, such as heart disease and diabetes.
  • Bone Health Insights: While not diagnostic, the DEXA scan can provide a whole-body bone density estimate, offering additional information to discuss with your healthcare provider.
  • Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Estimate: Gain insights into how many calories your body burns at rest, which can guide effective weight management strategies.
